So your buddy is itching and scratching like crazy, what gives? Well, first, ask yourself the question what would make your skin itchy? Is it because it is dry and flaky. Dry and flaky skin (desquamation) in dogs and cats is often caused by either a poor diet, harsh chemical shampoos, fleas or quite frankly all of the above.
Sometimes your pet is just not getting enough good fatty acids.
Signs of Fatty Acid Deficiency Disease:
-Coarse dry hair
-Desquamation of skin (flaky, scaly skin)
-Lesions (sores)
-Greasy skin
-Pruritic (itching)
-Thickening of skin
-Inflamation of the skin
I heard if the food has a bunch of grain in it that could cause the dry skin and coat. Has anyone else heard that?
I have heard that to many grains can cause problems. I think our pets need more meat I know my dads dogs were fed meaty bones about once a week and they never seemed to itch and scratch all the time.
