Smash Paws is the FIRST flyball team from Kansas! We were formed in August '01 and competed in our first tournament in December '01. It was hosted by Omaha 4-Play and we took 6th Place the first day and 3rd Place the second day! We were a Smashing Success (at least by our standards)! It was supposed to be a "No Frills" tourney, but we came back with lots of frills. We received two "Tournament Debut" plaques from Omaha 4-Play and lots of run-time sheets. (Back then we counted the time sheets as frills.)
Since then, we have gone through some changes - a team split, a bunch of new dogs who all look very promising, a new logo, and this wonderful new web site hosted by Don Shorock.
If you and your dog are team players looking for a fun sport to enjoy together, contact us. We are always looking for new members to join our team.
Smash Paws - The Name
Our name was inspired by one of our founding member dogs - Zap, a lightning-fast Border Collie who won't slow down, not even for a hard wooden box. She would literally smash her whole body against the box. Now, we know that's not good and we're working hard on retraining her. We want her to have a long and prosperous flyball career. But that's how we got our name. The rock group Smash Mouth may have had something to do with it too. . .
